ABOUT SALLY McCAUSLAND
BA, LLB (Hons) (USyd) LLM (UBC), Legal Practitioner, New South Wales, Senior Fellow (Melbourne Law Masters), University of Melbourne.
My former roles include Corporate Counsel at national public broadcaster SBS, supervising solicitor of the Arts Law Centre of Australia, solicitor at Herbert Smith Freehills, board member of Screenrights and Federal Court judges associate.
My clients include leading television production companies, documentary makers, broadcasters, international distributors, artists and educational bodies. I currently teach media law at the University of Sydney and the University of Melbourne. Recent publications include: “Is Sports Clip Sharing Legal in Australia?..” (2016) 35(2) Comms Law Bulletin, and “Getting Attention Without Getting a Statement of Claim” (2016) Gazette of Law & Journalism.
I have a long term interest in legal and policy issues concerning freedom of expression, privacy, journalism and the creative industries. I have provided pro bono services to the Arts Law Centre of Australia since 1994 and currently serve on the Privacy and Communications Committee of the NSW Law Society.Contact Me
